X-Ray Technician Degrees Offered near Clifton AZ

Clifton AZ x-ray tech school internship programThe standard prerequisite for enrolling in a radiology tech college is to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent. Radiologic technologist pupils have the choice to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, normally takes 18 months to two years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that may be acceptable as well. One thing to consider is that radiographer programs have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It can typically be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of colleges offer through local hospitals and clinics in Clifton AZ or their region. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must abide by any certification or licensing requirements in Arizona or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Licensing and Certification

After you have graduated from an x-ray technician program, depending on the state where you will be practicing you may need to be licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their prerequisites differ so get in touch with your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but a number accept other options for testing as well. Several states also call for certification as a component of the licensing procedure, if not it is voluntary. However, numerous Clifton area employers favor hiring radiology techs that have earned certification so it could improve your career options in and around Clifton AZ to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Technician Schools

Clifton AZ student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of every degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree programs. So while you can still earn your online degree, a considerable portion of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an internship off-campus. Practical training is typically conducted in Clifton AZ hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. But the online portion of the training may be attended in the privacy of your Clifton residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree typically find that the online style of education is much more practical with their busy schedules. Plus online schools are generally more affordable than conventional options. Along with lower tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials may be decreased as well. But just make sure that the online school you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online degree may be the best choice for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

Once you have decided on the type of degree that you would like to earn, you can start the process of locating and evaluating x-ray tech schools near Clifton AZ. You will also have to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or commute to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be important. The price of tuition and secondary expenses will be an important variable as well. But along with cost and location, what more should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you must ask the programs you are assessing.

Are the Radiology Technician Schools Accredited? A large number of radiology tech colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still crucial to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed assessment of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And a number of Clifton AZ employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry level openings.

Are Internships Provided? Inquire if the radiology tech programs you are interested in have associations with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great way to obtain practical training in a clinical environment, they are additionally a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help students and graduates establish professional connections in the Clifton AZ healthcare community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will undoubtedly wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in Clifton AZ in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the radiographer schools you are considering have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Arizona healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For many students, the school they decide on will need to be within travelling distance of their Clifton AZ residence. Students who have decided to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Clifton AZ schools you are looking at what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to talk with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the xray technician program also.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the xray tech  college you ultimately pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Clifton AZ area, check that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family emergencies.
