San Lorenzo CA x-ray tech school internship programThe standard requirement for enrolling in a radiology tech school is to have attained a high school diploma or GED. Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among technicians, generally requires 18 months to two years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to complete and is more extensive in nature. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that may be acceptable also. Something to bear in mind is that radiographer programs have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It can frequently be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in San Lorenzo CA or their region. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must comply with any certification or licensing requirements in California or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Licensing and Certification

Once you have graduated from an Radiologist school, based on the state where you will be working you may need to be licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their criteria differ so check with your state. Presently, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but many provide other alternatives for testing as well. Some states also call for certification as part of the licensing procedure, if not it is voluntary. However, many San Lorenzo area employers favor hiring radiology techs that have earned certification so it might enhance your career options in and around San Lorenzo CA to become certified. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also calls for re-certification every other year, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Tech Degrees

San Lorenzo CA student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree schools. So although you can still obtain your online degree, a substantial amount of the training will be fulfilled either in a school lab or in an externship off-campus. Practical training is usually carried out in San Lorenzo CA family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. But the online segment of the training can be accessed in the privacy of your San Lorenzo residence. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree usually discover that the online approach to education is much more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are frequently more affordable than on-campus options. Along with reduced tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials may be decreased as well. But just make sure that the online school you choose is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then an online degree may be the right option for you.

Topics to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

Once you have chosen the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can start the process of searching for and assessing x-ray technician schools near San Lorenzo CA. You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a determining variable as well. But along with location and cost, what else should you factor in when evaluating schools? Well, you should check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these important details before you make your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? Most xray tech colleges have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still crucial to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed assessment of their teachers and course materials. If the college is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also help in getting financial aid and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous San Lorenzo CA health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Find out if the xray technician schools you are interested in have associations with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific way to get practical experience in a clinical environment, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help students and graduates form professional relationships in the San Lorenzo CA health care community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that first job in San Lorenzo CA in a new field can be challenging without support. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with California healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they choose will have to be within travelling distance of their San Lorenzo CA residence. Individuals who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit way in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the San Lorenzo CA colleges you are looking at what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with a few of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the radiology tech program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the radiographer  college you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the San Lorenzo CA area, verify that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

    San Lorenzo, California

San Lorenzo, also known as San Lorenzo Village, is a census-designated place (CDP) located in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area in Alameda County, California, United States. The population was 23,452 at the 2010 census. It is an unincorporated community, located at the banks of San Lorenzo Creek. It was originally named Squattersville in 1851, but later renamed to San Lorenzo.[6]

In 1944, under contract to the U.S. Navy, The David D. Bohannon Company began construction of San Lorenzo Village, which was one of the nation's first planned communities, with parcels designated for schools, churches, parks, and several retail centers. Bohannon's pioneering pre-cutting techniques, referred to as the "California method," were used in later developments, such as the more famous Levittown, Pennsylvania.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2), of which, 2.8 square miles (7.3 km2) is land and 0.24% is water. San Lorenzo Creek runs partly through the town. It is located between the incorporated cities of San Leandro to the north and Hayward to the south.
