Conyers GA x-ray tech school internship programThe standard prerequisite for attending a radiology tech school is to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent. Radiologic technologist pupils have the choice to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, usually takes 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at up to four years to complete and is more expansive in scope. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that are acceptable as well. One thing to consider is that radiographer programs have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It may frequently be fulfilled by taking part in an externship program which a large number of colleges offer through local hospitals and clinics in Conyers GA or their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any licensing or certification mandates in Georgia or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, depending on the state where you will be practicing you may need to become licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their requirements differ so check with your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but several provide other options for testing as well. Some states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, if not it is voluntary. Having said that, numerous Conyers area employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may enhance your career options in and around Conyers GA to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every other year, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Tech Classes

Conyers GA student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree schools. So even though you can still obtain your online degree, a large portion of the training will be satisfied either in a school lab or in an internship off-campus. Clinical training is often performed in Conyers GA hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online portion of the training may be attended in the comfort of your Conyers residence. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree often find that the online style of learning is much more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online colleges are frequently less expensive than traditional alternatives. Along with reduced tuition, expenditures for study materials and commuting can be reduced as well. But just be sure that the online college you enroll in is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then an online degree may be the ideal choice for you.

Questions to Ask Radiographer Schools

As soon as you have decided on the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can begin the process of looking for and evaluating x-ray technician colleges near Conyers GA. You will also have to decide if you want to attend classes online or drive to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenses will be an important factor as well. But along with location and cost, what else should you consider when evaluating schools? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the schools you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Programs Accredited? The majority of xray tech colleges have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still important to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed evaluation of their instructors and educational materials. If the college is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Conyers GA health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Ask if the xray tech programs you are interested in have partnerships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great manner to receive practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help graduates and students form professional relationships in the Conyers GA healthcare community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will undoubtedly wish to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that first job in Conyers GA in a new field can be challenging without help. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are considering have job placement programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Georgia healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they pick will have to be within driving distance of their Conyers GA residence. Individuals who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the sort of person that prefers to sit way in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Conyers GA colleges you are researching what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with some of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the xray technician program also.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the radiographer  college you ultimately select can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you decide to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Conyers GA area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

    Conyers, Georgia

Conyers is an Atlanta suburb and the only city in Rockdale County, Georgia, United States. The city is twenty-four miles (38.6 km) east of Downtown Atlanta and is a part of the Atlanta Metropolitan Area. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 15,195. The city is the county seat of Rockdale County.[4] The formerly separate town of Milstead is now part of Conyers.

Between 1816 and 1821, the area known as Rockdale was open for settlement. John Holcomb, a blacksmith, was the first settler in what is now Conyers. He settled where the current Rockdale County Courthouse is located, in the middle of Conyers on Main Street.

Eventually, there was pressure for a railroad to cross Georgia; the railroad was intended to run from Augusta, through neighboring Covington to Marthasville (now known as Atlanta). John Holcomb was against the railroad and refused to sell his land, and threatened to shoot anyone from the railroad who came onto his property.
