You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be critical. The price of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a determining factor as well. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you factor in when comparing colleges? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details before you make your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are assessing.

Are the X-Ray Tech Programs Accredited? The majority of radiology technician schools have acquired some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still imperative to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed review of their teachers and educational materials. If the college is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in acquiring financial aid and student loans, which are many times not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Lafox IL employers will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the xray technician programs you are interested in have associations with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent means to obtain practical experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they may assist graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Lafox IL medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that initial job in Lafox IL in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Find out if the radiographer programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Illinois healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For many students, the college they pick will have to be within travelling distance of their Lafox IL home. Students who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of person that prefers to sit far in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Lafox IL schools you are considering what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you a chance to speak with a few of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the radiology technician program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the radiographer  program you finally choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you opt to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Lafox IL area, make certain that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.
