Radiology Tech Degrees Offered near Orange Park FL

Orange Park FL x-ray tech school internship programThe standard requirement for enrolling in an x-ray tech school is to have received a high school diploma or GED. Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among techs, usually takes 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to finish and is more comprehensive in nature. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that may be acceptable also. One thing to consider is that radiographer programs have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It may often be fulfilled by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of schools sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in Orange Park FL or their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any licensing or certification requirements in Florida or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Licensing and Certification

When you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, based on the state where you will be practicing you may have to become licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so get in touch with your state. Currently, all states that do require licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but a number offer other options for testing as well. Several states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is optional. However, many Orange Park area employers will only hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may increase your career options in and around Orange Park FL to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also calls for re-certification every two years, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Technologist Colleges

Orange Park FL student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of every degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree programs. So while you can still earn your online degree, a significant portion of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an internship off-campus. Clinical training is usually performed in Orange Park FL family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. But the online portion of the training may be accessed in the privacy of your Orange Park home. Students who keep working while earning their degree often discover that the online approach to learning is much more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online schools are generally less costly than conventional alternatives. Along with lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials can be lessened as well. But just confirm that the online college you enroll in is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then an online degree may be the ideal option for you.

Questions to Ask Radiologic Tech Schools

As soon as you have chosen the type of degree that you would like to obtain, you can start the process of looking for and assessing x-ray technician schools near Orange Park FL. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be important. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenses will be an important variable also. But in addition to location and cost, what else should you look at when reviewing colleges? Well, you should check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details prior to making your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you must ask the schools you are assessing.

Are the Radiology Technician Schools Accredited? Most radiology technician schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive review of their teachers and course materials. If the school is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Orange Park FL employers will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Find out if the radiology technician colleges you are assessing have associations with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific means to obtain hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are also a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students establish professional connections in the Orange Park FL medical community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduation, but finding that initial job in Orange Park FL in a new field can be difficult without help. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Florida healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will have to be within driving distance of their Orange Park FL residence. Students who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of person that likes to sit way in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Orange Park FL schools you are considering what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the radiology tech program also.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the xray tech  school you finally select can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you choose to continue working while attending classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Orange Park FL area, make sure that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family obligations.

    Orange Park, Florida

Orange Park is a town in Clay County, Florida, United States, and a suburb of Jacksonville. The population was 8,412 at the 2010 census.[5] The name "Orange Park" is additionally applied to a wider area of northern Clay County outside the town limits, covering such communities as Fleming Island, Lakeside, Bellair-Meadowbrook Terrace and Oakleaf Plantation.

The town's name reflects the hope of its founders for a fruit-growing industry, but their crops were destroyed in the Great Freeze of 1894–95. Despite recovery elsewhere, the crops never came back to Orange Park.

Orange Park in the late 18th century was known simply as Laurel Grove. The name Laurel Grove comes from Sarah and William Pengree who received a land grant from the Spanish governor. Laurel Grove was sold to Zephaniah Kingsley of the Kingsley Plantation upon William's death. Zephaniah developed Laurel Grove into a model farming plantation for over 10 years. In 1813 General Matthews invaded East Florida triggering the Patriots Rebellion. After Mathews left East Florida Zephaniah's wife Anna Madgigine Jai Kingsley burned down Laurel Grove to keep it out of Patriots hands.[6]
