An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, usually requires 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that are acceptable as well. It may often be fulfilled by participating in an internship or externship program which a large number of colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in Blountstown FL or their area. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must abide by any licensing or certification mandates in Florida or the state you will be working as applicable.

Some states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, if not it is optional. Having said that, numerous Blountstown area employers favor hiring radiology techs that are certified so it might improve your career options in and around Blountstown FL to earn certification. Online X-Ray Technician Classes

Blountstown FL student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree schools. Practical training is usually performed in Blountstown FL family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online portion of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Blountstown residence. Students who keep working while earning their degree typically find that the online style of learning is far more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are generally less expensive than on-campus alternatives. Along with reduced tuition, expenditures for study materials and commuting can be decreased as well. But just be sure that the online school you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online school may be the right option for you.

Points to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

After you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of looking for and evaluating x-ray technician colleges near Blountstown FL. You will also have to decide if you want to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be important. The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a material factor as well. But along with cost and location, what more should you factor in when evaluating schools? Well, you should check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details prior to making your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the schools you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Tech Programs Accredited? A large number of xray technician schools have earned some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still important to verify that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous review of their teachers and course materials. If the college is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also help in getting financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Blountstown FL health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry level positions.

Are Internships Provided? Inquire if the xray tech programs you are assessing have relationships with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent manner to receive hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students develop professional connections in the Blountstown FL health care community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will undoubtedly wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that first job in Blountstown FL in a new profession can be difficult without support. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Florida healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a lot of students, the school they choose will have to be within driving distance of their Blountstown FL residence. Those who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that prefers to sit way in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will likely prefer a smaller class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Blountstown FL colleges you are reviewing what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the xray tech  program you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Blountstown FL area, verify that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss as a result of work, illness or family obligations.

Blountstown is named for John Blount, a Creek Indian[1] Chief who served as a guide for General Andrew Jackson during his invasion of Spanish Florida in 1818. This invasion caused the United States to purchase Florida from Spain and the territory became a part of the U.S. in 1821.[6]

On October 10, 2018, Blountstown was nearly annihilated when Category 4 Hurricane Michael struck the town. The city was without power for almost three weeks and over 80% of homes and businesses were heavily damaged or destroyed. Blountstown High School suffered heavy damage, but Blountstown Elementary School was completely destroyed. As of November 2018, BES students are being housed at the Blountstown High and Blountstown Middle School campuses until the local school board can rebuild the elementary school.
