Haines City FL x-ray tech school internship programThe primary requirement for attending an x-ray tech program is to have earned a high school diploma or GED. Radiologic technologist pupils have the opportunity to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, normally takes 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to complete and is more extensive in nature. Most students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that may be appropriate also. Something to bear in mind is that radiographer colleges have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It can typically be fulfilled by participating in an externship program which many colleges offer through local hospitals and clinics in Haines City FL or their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any licensing or certification mandates in Florida or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiographer Licensing and Certification

After you have graduated from an Radiologist school, based on the state where you will be working you may need to become licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their requirements differ so get in touch with your state. At present, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but a number offer additional options for testing as well. Several states also call for certification as a component of the licensing procedure, if not it is optional. However, many Haines City area employers prefer to hire radiology techs that are certified so it may increase your career options in and around Haines City FL to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also calls for re-certification every 2 years, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Tech Classes

Haines City FL student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree programs. So while you can still earn your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is often performed in Haines City FL hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online portion of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Haines City residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree usually discover that the online style of learning is much more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online schools are generally cheaper than on-campus options. Along with reduced tuition, expenses for commuting and study materials may be lessened also. But just make sure that the online school you select is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then an online school may be the ideal option for you.

What to Ask Radiology Tech Programs

Once you have decided on the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of locating and evaluating x-ray tech colleges near Haines City FL. You will also need to determine if you want to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be an important factor also. But in addition to cost and location, what more should you consider when evaluating colleges? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details before you make your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Tech Programs Accredited? The majority of radiology tech schools have received some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous evaluation of their teachers and course materials. If the program is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Haines City FL employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry level jobs.

Are Internships Provided? Find out if the radiology technician schools you are interested in have associations with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a great manner to get hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are additionally a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students form professional connections in the Haines City FL medical community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will most likely wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that initial job in Haines City FL in a new profession can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the radiographer programs you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Florida healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they select will have to be within commuting distance of their Haines City FL home. Individuals who have decided to attend online classes naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit way in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Haines City FL schools you are researching what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with a few of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the xray technician program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the xray tech  school you finally pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Haines City FL area, check that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family obligations.

    Haines City, Florida

Haines City is a city in Polk County, Florida, United States. Its population was 13,174 at the 2000 census and 20,535 at the 2010 census.[5] It is the third most populous city in Polk County. It is part of the Lakeland–Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area, which, in turn, is considered part of the Tampa Bay Area.

Haines City was platted in 1885, shortly after the South Florida Railroad reached the area.[6] The city was first known as Clay Cut, but there was no railroad station. It is said that the inhabitants persuaded the railroad company to build a station by agreeing to rename their city Haines City, to honor a senior railroad official, Colonel Henry Haines.[7]

The City of Haines City was originally incorporated under the General Statutes of Florida as the Town of Haines City on February 23, 1914. The first state legislative act affecting the City was enacted on May 20, 1919, and, by Chapter 8272,[8] it was reincorporated under a Mayor-Council form of government. The present charter was adopted as Chapter 12790 on July 1, 1927, changing the form of government to “Commission-Manager Plan,” as amended. The City operates under a commission-manager form of government and provides the following services as authorized by its charter: Public safety (Police and Fire), Streets and Highways, Culture-Recreation, Public Improvements, Sanitation, Planning and Zoning and General and Administrative Services.[9]
