X-Ray Technician Degrees Available near Key Biscayne FL

Key Biscayne FL x-ray tech school internship programThe primary prerequisite for enrolling in an x-ray tech program is to have received a high school diploma or GED. Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among technicians, normally requires 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to finish and is more extensive in nature. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be acceptable also. One thing to keep in mind is that radiographer schools have a practical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It may often be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which many colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in Key Biscayne FL or their area. After you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must abide by any licensing or certification requirements in Florida or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiologic Technologist Certification and Licensing

When you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, based on the state where you will be employed you may have to become licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their prerequisites vary so get in touch with your state. Presently, all states that do require licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but many accept other options for testing as well. Some states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. Having said that, numerous Key Biscayne area employers favor hiring radiology techs that have earned certification so it could improve your career options in and around Key Biscayne FL to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also calls for re-certification every other year, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Technologist Programs

Key Biscayne FL student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have practical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is the same for online degree programs. So while you can still obtain your degree online, a large amount of the training will be satisfied either in a college lab or in an internship off campus. Clinical training is often carried out in Key Biscayne FL hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online section of the training can be accessed in the privacy of your Key Biscayne residence. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree often find that the online style of education is much more practical with their active schedules. Plus online programs are frequently more affordable than on-campus options. In addition to lower tuition, costs for study materials and commuting may be decreased as well. But just make certain that the online college you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then an online school may be the ideal option for you.

Points to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

Once you have decided on the type of degree that you want to earn, you can begin the process of finding and evaluating x-ray tech schools near Key Biscayne FL. You will also have to decide if you want to attend classes online or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be important. The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be an important factor as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you need to find out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these crucial details before you make your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are looking at.

Are the X-Ray Tech Schools Accredited? Most xray technician schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive assessment of their instructors and educational materials. If the college is online it may also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Key Biscayne FL employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the xray technician colleges you are assessing have relationships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific means to receive practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can assist students and graduates establish professional relationships in the Key Biscayne FL health care community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will most likely want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that initial job in Key Biscayne FL in a new profession can be challenging without support. Find out if the radiographer schools you are considering have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Florida healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the school they pick will have to be within travelling distance of their Key Biscayne FL residence. Those who have opted to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit way in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Key Biscayne FL schools you are considering what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the xray tech program also.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the radiographer  school you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you opt to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Key Biscayne FL area, check that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of illness, work or family emergencies.

    Key Biscayne, Florida

Key Biscayne lies south of Miami Beach and east of Miami. The village is connected to Miami via the Rickenbacker Causeway, originally built in 1947. Because of its low elevation and direct exposure to the Atlantic Ocean, it is usually among the first Miami areas to be evacuated before an oncoming hurricane.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km2). 1.3 square miles (3.4 km2) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km2) of it (8.63%) is water.

While there had been earlier schemes to develop a town on Key Biscayne, it wasn't until the opening of the four-mile (6 km) long Rickenbacker Causeway from Miami to Virginia Key and on to Key Biscayne in 1947 that the island was opened up to large scale residential development. The northern two-thirds of the island had been operated as the largest coconut plantation in the continental United States during the first half of the 20th century. In 1940 the Matheson family donated over 800 acres (3.2 km2) of their land to Dade County for a public park (Crandon Park) in exchange for a commitment that the county would build a causeway to the island. The remaining Matheson property, stretching across the middle of the island, was then sold off to developers. Starting in 1951, the Mackle Construction Company offered new homes on the island for US$9,540, with just US$500 down. A U.S. Post Office contract branch was opened, the Community Church started holding services in an old coconut-husking shed, and the Key Biscayne Elementary School opened in 1952.[7]
