Radiologic technologist students have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, normally requires 18 months to two years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as four years to finish and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be appropriate also. Something to keep in mind is that radiographer programs have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It can typically be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of schools sponsor through local hospitals and clinics in Macclenny FL or their region. Once you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must comply with any certification or licensing requirements in Florida or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-ray Technician Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an Radiologist school, depending on the state where you will be employed you may have to be licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their requirements vary so check with your state. At present, all states that do require licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the licensing application, but a number offer additional options for testing also. A number of states also require certification as a component of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is voluntary. However, many Macclenny area employers prefer to hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it could increase your career options in and around Macclenny FL to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every other year, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online X-Ray Technician Colleges

Macclenny FL student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree schools. Practical training is typically carried out in Macclenny FL hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. However the online segment of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Macclenny home. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree often discover that the online approach to education is much more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are generally less expensive than on-campus options. In addition to reduced tuition, costs for study materials and commuting can be decreased also. But just make sure that the online program you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online school may be the best choice for you.

What to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

Once you have decided on the type of degree that you would like to earn, you can initiate the process of searching for and evaluating x-ray technician colleges near Macclenny FL. You will also have to determine if you want to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenses will be an important variable as well. But in addition to cost and location, what else should you factor in when comparing schools? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details prior to making your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the schools you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? Most radiology tech colleges have earned some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive assessment of their instructors and course materials. If the program is online it might also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Macclenny FL employers will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the radiology tech colleges you are interested in have relationships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great means to get practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help graduates and students establish professional relationships in the Macclenny FL healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will probably wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that initial job in Macclenny FL in a new profession can be difficult without help. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Florida healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a lot of students, the school they choose will need to be within commuting distance of their Macclenny FL home. Students who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit far in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Macclenny FL schools you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program as well.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the xray tech  school you finally select can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Macclenny FL area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of illness, work or family emergencies.

    Macclenny, Florida

Macclenny is a city in Baker County, Florida and is one of the principal municipalities comprising Greater Jacksonville. The population was 6,374 at the 2010 census,[5] up from 4,459 in 2000. It is the county seat of Baker County.[6]

Macclenny was first called Darbyville because most of the land of this area was owned by the Darby family. Carr Bowers McClenny married into the Darby family, and then bought most of this land in the late 19th century. He intended to harvest it for timber.

Darbyville became known as McClenny. McLenny developed many businesses there related to lumber: harvesting the wood, sawmills to process it, turpentine, and land. The town name McClenny was changed to the current name of Macclenny because the post office department had a rule against using capital letters in the middle of a name. The first post office in Macclenny was established in 1890.
