An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, normally takes 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as four years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that are appropriate as well. A number of states also require certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. However, numerous Morrow area employers prefer to hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may increase your career options in and around Morrow GA to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every two years, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Technologist Degrees

Morrow GA student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree programs. So even though you can still obtain your degree online, a substantial portion of the training will be fulfilled either in a college lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is typically conducted in Morrow GA family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online portion of the training can be accessed in the privacy of your Morrow residence. Students who keep working while earning their degree usually discover that the online approach to learning is far more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are generally cheaper than traditional options. Along with reduced tuition, costs for study materials and commuting may be reduced as well. But just make certain that the online school you choose is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then an online degree may be the ideal choice for you.

What to Ask Radiologic Tech Colleges

When you have decided on the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can initiate the process of locating and assessing x-ray tech schools near Morrow GA. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or commute to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then of course the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and ancillary expenses will be a determining factor also. But along with cost and location, what more should you consider when comparing schools? Well, you should check out if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Tech Programs Accredited? The majority of xray technician colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive review of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited programs. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Morrow GA health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Find out if the xray tech programs you are reviewing have partnerships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific way to get practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Morrow GA health care community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance available? You will most likely wish to hit the ground running after graduation, but finding that initial job in Morrow GA in a new field can be challenging without help. Find out if the radiographer programs you are considering have job placement programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Georgia healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the college they pick will need to be within driving distance of their Morrow GA residence. Individuals who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the rear of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Morrow GA colleges you are reviewing what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you a chance to speak with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the xray technician program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to verify that the radiographer  college you finally select can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Morrow GA area, check that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of illness, work or family emergencies.
