You will also need to determine if you want to attend online classes or commute to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be critical. The price of tuition and ancillary expenses will be a determining variable as well. But along with location and cost, what else should you factor in when reviewing colleges? Well, you should ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of radiology tech colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still important to make sure that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous evaluation of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Honokaa HI health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry level openings.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Find out if the radiology tech colleges you are assessing have partnerships with regional hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great means to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help graduates and students develop professional connections in the Honokaa HI medical community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that initial job in Honokaa HI in a new field can be challenging without help. Ask if the radiographer programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Hawaii healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the school they select will need to be within travelling distance of their Honokaa HI residence. Individuals who have decided to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Honokaa HI colleges you are researching what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the xray technician program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the xray tech  program you ultimately pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you opt to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Honokaa HI area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss because of illness, work or family obligations.
