X-Ray Tech Degrees Available near North Aurora IL

North Aurora IL x-ray tech school internship programThe basic prerequisite for enrolling in an x-ray tech college is to have received a high school diploma or GED. Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among techs, generally takes 18 months to 2 years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to finish and is more extensive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be appropriate also. One thing to keep in mind is that radiographer schools have a practical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It may typically be satisfied by taking part in an externship program which many colleges offer through local clinics and hospitals in North Aurora IL or their area. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must comply with any certification or licensing requirements in Illinois or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

X-ray Technician Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an X-Ray tech program, depending on the state where you will be practicing you might need to become licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their criteria vary so get in touch with your state. Presently, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but many offer additional alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, if not it is voluntary. Having said that, numerous North Aurora area employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it could improve your career options in and around North Aurora IL to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also requires re-certification every two years, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Technologist Programs

North Aurora IL student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of every degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree colleges. So while you can still obtain your degree online, a substantial portion of the training will be completed either in a school lab or in an internship off-campus. Clinical training is typically performed in North Aurora IL family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online segment of the training may be accessed in the privacy of your North Aurora home. Students who keep working while earning their degree typically find that the online style of learning is far more convenient with their active schedules. Plus online schools are often less expensive than traditional options. Along with reduced tuition, expenses for commuting and study materials can be decreased also. But just be sure that the online program you choose is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online school may be the right choice for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiology Tech Colleges

When you have chosen the type of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of looking for and evaluating x-ray technician colleges near North Aurora IL. You will also have to decide if you want to attend online classes or commute to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be important. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a determining variable as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you factor in when reviewing colleges? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these important details prior to making your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Programs Accredited? The majority of radiology technician colleges have earned some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive review of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many North Aurora IL health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Offered? Inquire if the radiology tech programs you are assessing have associations with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific way to obtain practical experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help graduates and students develop professional connections in the North Aurora IL medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will probably wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in North Aurora IL in a new field can be challenging without assistance. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are interviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Illinois healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For many students, the college they decide on will have to be within commuting distance of their North Aurora IL residence. Students who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit way in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the North Aurora IL schools you are researching what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the xray technician program as well.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the xray tech  school you finally choose can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the North Aurora IL area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.

    North Aurora, Illinois

North Aurora is a village in Kane County, Illinois, United States, and a suburb of Chicago. It had a population of 16,760 at the 2010 census,[8] and as of 2017 the estimated population was 18,245.[9] North Aurora maintains its own public library district, fire district, and police department, but public spaces and parks are managed by the neighboring Fox Valley Park District.

In its early history, North Aurora was known as "Schneider's Mill" or "Schneider's Crossing" after John Peter Schneider, a German immigrant who established a mill and dam on the Fox River after moving to the area in 1834.[10][11] Schneider Elementary School, on the east side of the Fox River, is named after him.

North Aurora was named due to its location north of Aurora, Illinois.[12] The 1880 US Census was the first federal census to use the place-name "Village of North Aurora".[2] It was formally incorporated in 1905.[4]
