The cost of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a material factor as well. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you look at when evaluating colleges? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details prior to making your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you need to ask the colleges you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Technician Schools Accredited? A large number of radiology tech colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still crucial to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a detailed evaluation of their teachers and educational materials. If the college is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial aid and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many West Branch IA health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the xray tech colleges you are reviewing have associations with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Where is the College Located? For a lot of students, the school they choose will need to be within commuting distance of their West Branch IA home. Students who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. One thing to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the West Branch IA colleges you are looking at what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the radiology technician program also.

This is particularly essential if you decide to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the West Branch IA area, check that they are offered.
