X-Ray Technician Degree Options near Arkansas City KS

Arkansas City KS x-ray tech school internship programThe basic requirement for attending a radiology tech program is to have received a high school diploma or equivalent. Radiologic technologist students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, usually takes 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at up to 4 years to finish and is more extensive in scope. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that may be acceptable as well. Something to bear in mind is that radiographer colleges have a practical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It can typically be fulfilled by taking part in an externship program which a large number of schools sponsor through local hospitals and clinics in Arkansas City KS or their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any licensing or certification requirements in Kansas or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an X-Ray tech school, based on the state where you will be working you might have to become licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their requirements differ so get in touch with your state. At present, all states that do require licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but many provide other alternatives for testing also. Some states also require certification as a component of the licensing procedure, if not it is optional. However, numerous Arkansas City area employers will only hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it could improve your career options in and around Arkansas City KS to become certified. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which may be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online X-Ray Technologist Programs

Arkansas City KS student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree colleges. So while you can still earn your online degree, a considerable portion of the training will be fulfilled either in a college lab or in an internship off-campus. Clinical training is typically carried out in Arkansas City KS hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online portion of the training can be attended in the comfort of your Arkansas City residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree often find that the online style of education is far more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online schools are frequently less costly than conventional options. In addition to lower tuition, expenses for commuting and study materials may be reduced as well. But just confirm that the online program you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online school may be the ideal choice for you.

Topics to Ask Radiographer Programs

When you have chosen the type of degree that you would like to obtain, you can initiate the process of finding and assessing x-ray technician schools near Arkansas City KS. You will also need to decide if you want to attend online classes or travel to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then of course the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenses will be a determining variable as well. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you consider when evaluating colleges? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these essential details before you make your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Colleges Accredited? Most xray tech schools have earned some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still important to verify that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive review of their instructors and educational materials. If the college is online it can also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in getting financial assistance and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Arkansas City KS employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Inquire if the radiology technician schools you are interested in have partnerships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help graduates and students establish professional relationships in the Arkansas City KS healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will undoubtedly want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that first job in Arkansas City KS in a new field can be difficult without support. Ask if the radiographer schools you are considering have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Kansas healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the college they choose will need to be within driving distance of their Arkansas City KS home. Students who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the sort of student that likes to sit far in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a smaller class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Arkansas City KS schools you are researching what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the xray technician program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the radiographer  program you ultimately choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you choose to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Arkansas City KS area, confirm that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

    Arkansas City, Kansas

Arkansas City (/ɑːrˈkænzəs/)[6] is a city in Cowley County, Kansas, United States, situated at the confluence of the Arkansas and Walnut rivers in the southwestern part of the county. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 12,415.[7]

The name of this city is not pronounced like the nearby state of Arkansas, but rather as /ɑːrˈkænzəs/ (the final "s" is pronounced). Over the years there has been much confusion about the regional pronunciation of "Arkansas", which locals render as /ɑːrˈkænzəs/ rather than /ˈɑːrkənsɔː/.[8] Throughout much of Kansas, residents use this alternative pronunciation when referring to the Arkansas River, as well as Arkansas Street in the city of Wichita.

In 1601, New Mexico Governor Juan de Oñate led an expedition across the Great Plains and found a large settlement of Indians he called Rayados. They lived along the Walnut River in the eastern part of Arkansas City. Extensive remains of Indian settlements have been found along six miles (9.7 km) of the Walnut River. The Rayados were the ancestors of the Indians later called Wichita. Wichita settlements from the 18th century are also found a few miles south of Arkansas City on the west bank of the Arkansas River.[10]
