An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among technicians, generally requires 18 months to two years to complete depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as four years to complete and is more expansive in nature. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be acceptable as well. However, numerous Saline area employers favor hiring radiology techs that have earned certification so it could enhance your career options in and around Saline MI to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which can be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Technologist Classes

Saline MI student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree programs. So while you can still obtain your online degree, a significant portion of the training will be completed either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Clinical training is typically carried out in Saline MI family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. However the online portion of the training can be accessed in the comfort of your Saline home. Students who keep working while earning their degree often discover that the online style of learning is much more convenient with their busy schedules. Plus online colleges are generally cheaper than on-campus alternatives. In addition to reduced tuition, expenses for commuting and study materials can be reduced as well. But just make certain that the online college you choose is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then online classes may be the best choice for you.

Topics to Ask Radiographer Colleges

When you have selected the type of degree that you want to earn, you can begin the process of searching for and evaluating x-ray technician schools near Saline MI. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or drive to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be relevant. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a material variable as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you factor in when comparing schools? Well, you need to find out if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these important details before you make your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you must ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Tech Programs Accredited? A large number of radiology tech schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still imperative to confirm that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive examination of their instructors and course materials. If the program is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial aid and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Saline MI employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Offered? Find out if the radiology technician schools you are assessing have partnerships with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent manner to obtain practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a means to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may assist graduates and students establish professional relationships in the Saline MI health care community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that initial job in Saline MI in a new field can be difficult without support. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are considering have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Michigan healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the school they select will have to be within driving distance of their Saline MI residence. Students who have decided to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Saline MI colleges you are looking at what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with some of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the xray technician program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the radiographer  program you finally select can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you choose to continue working while you attend school. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Saline MI area, verify that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss due to illness, work or family obligations.

    Saline, Michigan

The city is popular for its annual Celtic Festival, which attracts people from all over the United States and its sister cities Brecon, Wales, United Kingdom (established 1966) and Lindenberg, Germany (established 2003).

Before the 18th century, Native Americans traveled to what is now Saline to hunt wildlife and gather salt from the salt springs they found nearby. In the 18th century, French explorers canoed up to the area and also harvested the salt. They named the local river Saline, which means "salty" in French. Europeans settled the area in the 19th century, most of them coming from England and Germany. Together with Orange Risdon, a government surveyor who is generally considered to be the city's founder, the residents named the town Saline, which was officially established in 1832. In 1870 railroad service, provided by the Detroit-Hillsdale-&-Indiana Railroad, first reached Saline.[6] In 1875 Salinians built one of the city's most famous landmarks, the Second-Empire frame, 2 1⁄2-story residential building, the Davenport House, a.k.a. Curtis Mansion. The town continued to grow, and in 1931 the Village of Saline became the City of Saline.[7] The Saline Fisheries Research Station was built on the site of a pioneer grist mill.[8] The city of Saline had its own newspaper since ca. 1874 [9] but the Saline Reporter was shuttered by its owner, Digital First Media, in 2014. The Saline Post, an independent outlet, now serves the community.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.33 square miles (11.21 km2), of which 4.26 square miles (11.03 km2) is land and 0.07 square miles (0.18 km2) is water.[10]
