An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, generally takes 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to four years to complete and is more extensive in nature. Some states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, if not it is optional. However, many Red Lodge area employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it may enhance your career options in and around Red Lodge MT to become certified. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Tech Colleges

Red Lodge MT student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree colleges. So even though you can still obtain your online degree, a substantial portion of the training will be fulfilled either in a college lab or in an internship off-campus. Practical training is often conducted in Red Lodge MT family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. However the online segment of the training may be accessed in the comfort of your Red Lodge residence. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree usually find that the online approach to education is much more convenient with their active schedules. Plus online schools are often less expensive than conventional alternatives. Along with lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials can be lessened as well. But just make sure that the online school you enroll in is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then an online degree may be the right choice for you.

Questions to Ask Radiology Tech Programs

When you have decided on the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can begin the process of finding and assessing x-ray technician colleges near Red Lodge MT. You will also have to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or commute to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be important. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a determining factor as well. But in addition to location and cost, what else should you factor in when evaluating schools? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details before you make your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Tech Colleges Accredited? The majority of radiology technician schools have acquired some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still important to confirm that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive evaluation of their teachers and course materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited programs. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Red Lodge MT employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internships Provided? Find out if the xray tech schools you are assessing have relationships with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent means to get practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may assist graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Red Lodge MT healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in Red Lodge MT in a new field can be difficult without help. Ask if the radiographer schools you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Montana healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will need to be within commuting distance of their Red Lodge MT residence. Those who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to consider is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges often charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that likes to sit far in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely prefer a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Red Lodge MT schools you are researching what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you a chance to speak with several of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the xray technician program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the radiographer  college you finally pick can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Red Lodge MT area, make certain that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of illness, work or family emergencies.

    Red Lodge, Montana

Red Lodge is a city in and the county seat of Carbon County, Montana, United States.[4] It is part of the Billings Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 2,125 at the United States Census, 2010.[5]

On September 17, 1851, the United States government signed a treaty with the Crow Nation, ceding the area which now contains Red Lodge, MT to the Crow Indians. Rich coal deposits were found there in 1866, and gold was discovered nearby in 1870. An 1880 treaty between the U.S. government and the Crow allowed the area to be settled starting April 11, 1882.[7]

The Red Lodge post office was established on Dec 9, 1884 with Postmaster Ezra L. Benton.[8] A rail line was constructed into town, and coal shipments began in June 1889. The boundaries of the Crow Reservation were redrawn October 15, 1892, opening the whole area to settlement. From then until the 1930s, coal mining defined the town.[9]
