The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a determining variable as well. But in addition to cost and location, what else should you factor in when comparing schools? Well, you should ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these crucial details before you make your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the schools you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Tech Colleges Accredited? A large number of xray technician schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive review of their teachers and educational materials. If the college is online it may also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Kimball NE health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the radiology tech schools you are interested in have associations with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to get hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help graduates and students form professional connections in the Kimball NE health care community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduation, but finding that first job in Kimball NE in a new field can be challenging without help. Find out if the radiographer schools you are assessing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Nebraska healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a lot of students, the college they decide on will have to be within travelling distance of their Kimball NE home. Individuals who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit way in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will probably prefer a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Kimball NE colleges you are considering what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the xray technician program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the radiographer  program you finally select can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Kimball NE area, confirm that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.
