Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among technicians, normally takes 18 months to two years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as four years to complete and is more extensive in scope. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that are acceptable as well. Something to bear in mind is that radiographer colleges have a practical training or lab component as a component of their curriculum. It can typically be satisfied by taking part in an internship or externship program which many schools offer through local hospitals and clinics in Apollo PA or their area. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must abide by any licensing or certification mandates in Pennsylvania or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Certification and Licensing

When you have graduated from an X-Ray tech program, depending on the state where you will be practicing you may have to be licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so contact your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but a number offer additional alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. However, numerous Apollo area employers prefer to hire radiology techs that are certified so it may enhance your career options in and around Apollo PA to become certified. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also requires re-certification every 2 years, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Technician Schools

Apollo PA student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree schools. So even though you can still obtain your degree online, a large portion of the training will be completed either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is often provided in Apollo PA hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. But the online segment of the training may be accessed in the comfort of your Apollo home. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree often discover that the online approach to education is far more practical with their active schedules. Plus online colleges are often more affordable than on-campus options. In addition to reduced tuition, expenditures for commuting and study materials can be decreased as well. But just be sure that the online school you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then online classes may be the best option for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiographer Colleges

After you have decided on the type of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of finding and assessing x-ray technician schools near Apollo PA. You will also have to decide if you want to attend classes online or travel to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be critical. The price of tuition and secondary expenses will be a material variable as well. But in addition to location and cost, what else should you consider when reviewing colleges? Well, you should find out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these important details before you make your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Tech Colleges Accredited? The majority of xray tech colleges have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive examination of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it may also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial aid and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Apollo PA health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Inquire if the xray technician colleges you are reviewing have partnerships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great means to obtain hands on training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help students and graduates establish professional connections in the Apollo PA healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will probably wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that first job in Apollo PA in a new profession can be challenging without help. Find out if the x-ray tech schools you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Pennsylvania healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a lot of students, the school they pick will need to be within travelling distance of their Apollo PA home. Students who have decided to attend classes online naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges commonly charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit way in the rear of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Apollo PA colleges you are considering what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology technician program as well.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  program you ultimately pick can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you opt to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Apollo PA area, check that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss due to illness, work or family emergencies.

    Apollo, Pennsylvania

Apollo is a borough in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States, 35 miles (56 km) northeast of Pittsburgh in a former coal-mining region. Apollo was settled in 1790, laid out in 1816, and incorporated as a borough in 1848. The population was 1,647 at the 2010 census.[3]

The area was sectioned in 1769, following the Treaty of Fort Stanwix, as a farm known as "Warren's Sleeping Place", named after a Native American trader from the area named Edward Warren. It was soon surveyed and divided into lots, with the town of Warren officially being added to the Greensburg register on November 9, 1816.[4] The log cabin home of the Drake family still stands in the area, and is one of the oldest buildings in Armstrong County.

By the late 19th century the Apollo Iron & Steel Company dominated the local economy. In 1895, the company's president, George Gibson McMurtry, hired famous landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted to design a town for Apollo Iron & Steel's workers. The result was the neighboring town of Vandergrift. In 1911, Apollo became home to the first public library in Armstrong County.
