You will also need to determine if you want to attend online classes or commute to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be critical. The price of tuition and secondary expenses will be a material factor as well. But in addition to cost and location, what more should you factor in when comparing colleges? Well, you need to check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these essential details prior to making your selection, we have assembled a list of questions that you need to ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Colleges Accredited? Most xray technician schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still important to confirm that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed evaluation of their teachers and course materials. If the school is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Lugoff SC employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited school for entry-level jobs.

Are Internships Provided? Find out if the xray tech schools you are assessing have associations with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific way to obtain hands on experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. Ask if the radiographer schools you are considering have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with South Carolina healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For a lot of students, the school they choose will have to be within commuting distance of their Lugoff SC home. Students who have chosen to attend online classes naturally will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit far in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Lugoff SC colleges you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you a chance to talk with several of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the xray technician program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the radiographer  program you ultimately select can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Lugoff SC area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.
