You will also have to determine if you prefer to attend classes online or travel to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenses will be a determining factor also. But along with location and cost, what else should you consider when evaluating schools? Well, you should check out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these important details prior to making your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are assessing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Programs Accredited? A large number of xray technician colleges have acquired some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still imperative to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed review of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it might also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Taylors SC employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Sponsored? Inquire if the xray technician schools you are assessing have associations with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great manner to get hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may assist graduates and students develop professional connections in the Taylors SC medical community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will most likely wish to hit the ground running after graduation, but finding that first job in Taylors SC in a new profession can be difficult without support. Find out if the x-ray tech schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with South Carolina healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the school they decide on will have to be within travelling distance of their Taylors SC residence. Individuals who have chosen to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that prefers to sit far in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Taylors SC schools you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with some of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the xray tech program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  school you ultimately select can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Taylors SC area, make sure that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry.
