Radiologic technologist pupils have the opportunity to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among technicians, usually requires 18 months to 2 years to complete based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to finish and is more extensive in scope. Most students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that are appropriate as well. Something to bear in mind is that radiographer programs have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It may often be satisfied by participating in an internship or externship program which many colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in Huntsville TN or their area. Once you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must comply with any licensing or certification requirements in Tennessee or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiologic Technologist Certification and Licensing

After you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, based on the state where you will be working you might have to be licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their requirements vary so contact your state. At present, all states that do require licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but many offer additional alternatives for testing as well. A number of states also call for certification as part of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. Having said that, numerous Huntsville area employers will only hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may increase your career options in and around Huntsville TN to become certified. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every 2 years, which may be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Tech Colleges

Huntsville TN student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree programs. So while you can still earn your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be fulfilled either in a college lab or in an internship off campus. Clinical training is typically conducted in Huntsville TN hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. However the online portion of the training may be accessed in the privacy of your Huntsville residence. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree usually find that the online style of learning is much more convenient with their hectic schedules. Plus online colleges are generally less costly than traditional options. In addition to reduced tuition, expenditures for study materials and commuting can be decreased as well. But just make certain that the online college you select is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online school may be the right option for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiologic Tech Schools

As soon as you have decided on the type of degree that you would like to earn, you can start the process of searching for and evaluating x-ray technician colleges near Huntsville TN. You will also have to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenses will be a determining factor as well. But along with location and cost, what else should you consider when reviewing schools? Well, you should find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the schools you are assessing.

Are the X-Ray Tech Schools Accredited? The majority of radiology tech colleges have earned some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. Even so, it’s still important to confirm that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive review of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial aid and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Huntsville TN health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level positions.

Are Internships Sponsored? Inquire if the radiology tech programs you are evaluating have relationships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific manner to obtain practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they may help graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Huntsville TN healthcare community and assist with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that initial job in Huntsville TN in a new profession can be challenging without support. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Tennessee healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will need to be within commuting distance of their Huntsville TN home. Individuals who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges normally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit far in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will likely want a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Huntsville TN colleges you are researching what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the xray tech program as well.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  college you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Huntsville TN area, make sure that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to enroll in. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family emergencies.

    Huntsville, Tennessee

Huntsville is a town in Scott County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 981 at the 2000 census and 1,248 at the 2010 census, showing an increase of 267. It is the county seat of Scott County.[6]

Huntsville was named after a long hunter known only by the surname "Hunt." This long hunter camped under a rock shelter in the mid-18th century and later moved his family to the area. When Scott County was formed in 1849, Huntsville was chosen as the county seat due to the site's central location within the new county as well as an excellent spring that flowed across the property.[7]

During the U.S. Civil War, Scott County was staunchly pro-Union. In Tennessee's June 1861 referendum on secession, the county voted 541-19 against secession, the highest percentage of any county in Tennessee. In spite of fierce opposition from Scott and other East Tennessee counties, the ordinance passed and Tennessee seceded from the Union. Later that year, Scott County voted unanimously to secede from Tennessee and formed the Independent State of Scott.[8][9]
