Radiologic technologist students have the choice to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among techs, generally requires 18 months to two years to finish depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to finish and is more expansive in nature. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that are acceptable as well. Something to consider is that radiographer colleges have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It may frequently be satisfied by participating in an externship program which a large number of schools sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in Gail TX or their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must abide by any licensing or certification requirements in Texas or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Licensing and Certification

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, depending on the state where you will be working you may have to be licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their criteria vary so check with your state. At present, all states that do mandate licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but several offer other alternatives for testing also. Some states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. However, many Gail area employers prefer to hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may improve your career options in and around Gail TX to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an approved program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also requires re-certification every other year, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Tech Degrees

Gail TX student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree programs. So although you can still obtain your degree online, a significant portion of the training will be satisfied either in a college lab or in an internship off campus. Clinical training is often performed in Gail TX family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. But the online portion of the training may be attended in the comfort of your Gail home. Students who keep working while earning their degree often discover that the online approach to education is far more convenient with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are generally less expensive than on-campus options. In addition to reduced tuition, expenses for study materials and commuting may be lessened as well. But just make certain that the online school you enroll in is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then online classes may be the right option for you.

Points to Ask Radiology Tech Schools

When you have decided on the kind of degree that you want to obtain, you can begin the process of searching for and evaluating x-ray tech schools near Gail TX. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be important. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a determining variable as well. But in addition to cost and location, what else should you consider when evaluating colleges? Well, you should find out if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are looking at.

Are the X-Ray Tech Programs Accredited? Most xray tech colleges have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still crucial to confirm that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed assessment of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also help in getting financial aid and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Gail TX employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry-level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Ask if the radiology technician colleges you are reviewing have partnerships with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent manner to obtain hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are additionally a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help graduates and students develop professional relationships in the Gail TX health care community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will most likely want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but finding that first job in Gail TX in a new profession can be challenging without help. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Texas healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the college they select will need to be within commuting distance of their Gail TX home. Students who have decided to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of person that likes to sit way in the rear of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Gail TX colleges you are researching what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the xray tech program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the xray tech  school you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Gail TX area, make sure that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

    Gail, Texas

Gail is an unincorporated small town in Borden County, Texas, United States. Located at the junction of U.S. Highway 180 and Farm to Market Road 669, it is the county seat of Borden County.[1] As of the 2010 Census, the population was 231.[2]

Founded in 1891 to coincide with the organization of Borden County, Gail has served as county seat for the duration of its existence. Borden County had remained quite sparsely populated until 1903, when the locally famed "War of Ribbons", inspired by a state-sanctioned land grab, took place. The conflict took its name from the practice of established ranchers displaying their affiliation and identity by way of a blue ribbon on their sleeves, whereas new settlers to the area designated theirs with a similarly placed red ribbon. By 1910, Gail was home to more than 700 residents, and though this would fall to 600 by 1912, the community remained the economic and administrative hub of Borden County. Changes in agricultural practices and patterns, coupled with the impact of the Great Depression, hindered the town and county's prosperity. By 1936, Gail's population had dwindled to 250 residents, and by 1980, it had fallen to around 190.[4] The census of 2010 counted 231 residents in Gail.[2]

The Borden County Jail opened in 1896. Built at a cost of $4,500 by the Diebold Safe and Lock Company, it had 2-foot-thick (0.61 m) outside walls made of stone from Gail Mountain, and 0.3-foot (0.091 m) hardened steel plates in the cell walls and floor.[5] In 1956, two prisoners objected to Sheriff Sid Reeder's attempt to place them into one of the jail's cells when they noticed a rattlesnake sleeping inside.[6] A historic marker was placed outside the jail in 1967.
