And considering that the majority of states do require that radiology techs become licensed, based on where you subsequently practice you might require training to pass a licensing test. So it’s important that you research each of the X-ray technician schools you are looking at in order to evaluate each program. Many prospective students start by searching for technical schools or colleges that are within commuting distance of their homes. Next, they check tuition and often gravitate toward the lowest cost. But while cost and location should be taken into account, there are additional important qualifications as well. For example, you need to ask whether or not the radiology tech schools have earned accreditation, or if they offer internships. But first, let’s explore what a radiologic tech does and the degrees and training choices that are available.

X-Ray Tech Degrees Offered near Lebanon IN

Lebanon IN x-ray tech school internship programThe standard requirement for enrolling in a radiology tech program is to have earned a high school diploma or equivalent. Radiologic technologist students have the option to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among techs, usually requires 18 months to two years to finish depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to finish and is more extensive in nature. Most students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are other related majors that may be appropriate also. Something to consider is that radiographer schools have a clinical training or lab component as part of their curriculum. It may typically be satisfied by participating in an internship or externship program which a large number of colleges offer through local clinics and hospitals in Lebanon IN or their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must abide by any certification or licensing mandates in Indiana or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Certification and Licensing

Once you have graduated from an Radiologist program, based on the state where you will be employed you might need to become licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their prerequisites vary so get in touch with your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but a number offer other alternatives for testing as well. Several states also require certification as a component of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, many Lebanon area employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it could improve your career options in and around Lebanon IN to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also demands re-certification every other year, which can be met with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Technician Colleges

Lebanon IN student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is no different for online degree programs. So even though you can still earn your degree online, a large portion of the training will be satisfied either in a college lab or in an externship off-campus. Clinical training is typically conducted in Lebanon IN family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online portion of the training can be attended in the privacy of your Lebanon residence. Students who continue working while obtaining their degree usually find that the online approach to learning is much more practical with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are frequently more affordable than traditional options. Along with lower tuition, costs for commuting and study materials may be lessened as well. But just make certain that the online program you enroll in is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less formalized type of training, then online classes may be the right choice for you.

Topics to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

After you have chosen the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can initiate the process of looking for and assessing x-ray tech schools near Lebanon IN. You will also need to determine if you want to attend online classes or travel to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenditures will be an important variable as well. But along with cost and location, what else should you look at when evaluating schools? Well, you should check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you find out some of these essential details prior to making your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you need to ask the schools you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Technician Colleges Accredited? The majority of xray tech schools have earned some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still important to confirm that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone an extensive review of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it might also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also help in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are often not available for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Lebanon IN employers will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Find out if the xray tech programs you are reviewing have relationships with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent way to receive practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they can assist students and graduates form professional connections in the Lebanon IN healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will probably want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but getting that first job in Lebanon IN in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Indiana healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they select will have to be within driving distance of their Lebanon IN home. Students who have decided to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges usually charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition for those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of person that prefers to sit way in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a smaller class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Lebanon IN colleges you are reviewing what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to speak with a few of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the radiology tech program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the radiographer  program you ultimately pick can offer the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you choose to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Lebanon IN area, make certain that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss due to work, illness or family obligations.

    Lebanon

Lebanon (/ˈlɛbənɒn/ (listen); Arabic: لبنان‎, romanized: Lubnān, Levantine Arabic pronunciation: [lɪbˈnɛːn]; French: Liban), officially known as the Lebanese Republic[nb 3] (Arabic: الجمهورية اللبنانية‎, romanized: al-Jumhūrīyah al-Lubnānīyah, Levantine Arabic pronunciation: [elˈʒʊmhuːɾɪjje lˈlɪbnɛːnɪjje]; French: République libanaise), is an Arab country in Western Asia.[7][8][9][10][11] It is bordered by Syria to the north and east and Israel to the south, while Cyprus is west across the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon's location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin and the Arabian hinterland facilitated its rich history and shaped a cultural identity of religious and ethnic diversity.[12] At just 10,452 km2 (4,036 sq. mi.), it is the smallest recognized sovereign state on the mainland Asian continent.[nb 4][13][14]

The earliest evidence of civilization in Lebanon dates back more than seven thousand years, predating recorded history.[15] Lebanon was the home of the Canaanites/Phoenicians and their kingdoms, a maritime culture that flourished for over a thousand years (c. 1550–539 BC). In 64 BC, the region came under the rule of the Roman Empire, and eventually became one of the Empire's leading centers of Christianity. In the Mount Lebanon range a monastic tradition known as the Maronite Church was established. As the Arab Muslims conquered the region, the Maronites held onto their religion and identity. However, a new religious group, the Druze, established themselves in Mount Lebanon as well, generating a religious divide that has lasted for centuries. During the Crusades, the Maronites re-established contact with the Roman Catholic Church and asserted their communion with Rome. The ties they established with the Latins have influenced the region into the modern era.

The region eventually was ruled by the Ottoman Empire from 1516 to 1918. Following the collapse of the empire after World War I, the five provinces that constitute modern Lebanon came under the French Mandate of Lebanon. The French expanded the borders of the Mount Lebanon Governorate, which was mostly populated by Maronites and Druze, to include more Muslims. Lebanon gained independence in 1943, establishing confessionalism, a unique, Consociationalism-type of political system with a power-sharing mechanism based on religious communities. Bechara El Khoury, President of Lebanon during the independence, Riad El-Solh, first Lebanese prime minister and Emir Majid Arslan II, first Lebanese minister of defence, are considered the founders of the modern Republic of Lebanon and are national heroes for having led the country's independence. Foreign troops withdrew completely from Lebanon on 31 December 1946,[16] although the country was subjected to military occupations by Syria that lasted nearly thirty years before being withdrawn in April 2005 as well as Israel for fifteen years before being withdrawn in May 2000.
