The price of tuition and ancillary expenditures will be a determining variable also. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you look at when comparing schools? Well, you should check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you must ask the programs you are assessing.

Are the Radiology Tech Colleges Accredited? A large number of xray technician colleges have earned some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to confirm that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive evaluation of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also assist in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Dysart IA employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level openings.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Find out if the radiology technician schools you are reviewing have partnerships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only a great way to receive practical experience in a clinical setting, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. Rapid and high placement rates are a good indication that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Iowa healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the school they choose will have to be within commuting distance of their Dysart IA residence. Students who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that likes to sit far in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Dysart IA schools you are considering what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program as well.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must confirm that the radiographer  college you ultimately pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you choose to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Dysart IA area, check that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, check if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in.
