Currently, all states that do mandate licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but many provide additional options for testing also. Several states also call for certification as a component of the licensing procedure, if not it is optional. Having said that, numerous Russell area employers would rather hire radiology techs that are certified so it might increase your career options in and around Russell KS to earn certification. Online X-Ray Technician Schools

Russell KS student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their course of study. This is the same for online degree colleges. So while you can still earn your degree online, a large amount of the training will be satisfied either in a college lab or in an internship off-campus. Clinical training is often provided in Russell KS hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the schools. However the online segment of the training can be accessed in the comfort of your Russell home. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree often find that the online style of education is much more convenient with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are often less expensive than on-campus options. Along with lower tuition, expenditures for study materials and commuting can be lessened also. But just make sure that the online school you pick is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then an online school may be the right choice for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiology Tech Programs

Once you have chosen the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can initiate the process of searching for and assessing x-ray technician colleges near Russell KS. You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then of course the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a determining variable as well. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you factor in when evaluating schools? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details prior to making your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the schools you are looking at.

Are the Radiology Technician Colleges Accredited? Most xray technician colleges have obtained some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to verify that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed review of their instructors and educational materials. If the program is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are often not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And numerous Russell KS employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the radiology technician colleges you are assessing have partnerships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great manner to obtain hands on training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help students and graduates establish professional connections in the Russell KS medical community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that initial job in Russell KS in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the x-ray tech programs you are assessing have job placement programs and what their success rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Kansas healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their graduates are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the college they select will need to be within commuting distance of their Russell KS home. Students who have opted to attend online classes obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or even out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges usually charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of person that likes to sit far in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Smaller classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Russell KS colleges you are considering what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with several of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the xray tech program also.

Can the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the radiographer  college you finally choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly essential if you decide to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Russell KS area, confirm that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, ask what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of work, illness or family obligations.

    Russell, Kansas

In 1865, the Butterfield Overland Despatch established a short-lived station named Fossil Creek Station along its route from Atchison, Kansas to Denver near the site of modern Russell. In 1867, the Kansas Pacific Railway reached the area and built its own station, also named Fossil Creek, later just Fossil, north of the Butterfield station. That same year, the Kansas Legislature established the surrounding area as Russell County. In 1871, colonists from Ripon, Wisconsin established a permanent settlement at Fossil Station, renaming it Russell after the county.[7] Russell was incorporated and named the provisional county seat in 1872, and, after a two-year dispute with neighboring Bunker Hill, it became the permanent county seat in 1874.[8][9] In 1876, Volga Germans, mostly from the area around Saratov and Samara in Russia, began settling in and around Russell.[10]

The first discovery oil well in Russell County was drilled west of Russell in 1923. An oil boom ensued and lasted through the 1930s, attracting settlers from Oklahoma and Texas. Petroleum production became a staple of the local economy.[11]

Russell came to national attention in the mid-1990s as the hometown of U.S. Senators Bob Dole and Arlen Specter when both men campaigned for the U.S. presidency.[12] Dole was born and raised in Russell, and it remained his official place of residence throughout his political career.[13]
