The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be an important variable also. But along with location and cost, what more should you consider when comparing colleges? Well, you need to find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these essential details before you make your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? A large number of radiology tech schools have obtained some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed evaluation of their teachers and course materials. If the program is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a premium education, accreditation will also assist in getting financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Crestwood KY employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry-level jobs.

Are Internships Offered? Inquire if the radiology technician schools you are evaluating have partnerships with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great means to receive hands on experience in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and good relationships with Kentucky healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they select will need to be within commuting distance of their Crestwood KY residence. Those who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the type of student that prefers to sit way in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably prefer a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Crestwood KY schools you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology technician program as well.

Does the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the radiographer  program you ultimately choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you opt to continue working while you attend classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Crestwood KY area, confirm that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an alternative and how many courses or credit hours you would have to enroll in.
