Subjects to Ask Radiology Tech Programs

When you have decided on the kind of degree that you would like to earn, you can begin the process of searching for and assessing x-ray technician schools near Magee MS. You will also need to determine if you want to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then obviously the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and ancillary expenses will be an important variable also. But in addition to location and cost, what more should you consider when comparing schools? Well, you should find out if the colleges are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details prior to making your selection, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the schools you are assessing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Colleges Accredited? The majority of xray technician schools have received some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still crucial to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous assessment of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it may also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on online or distance learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also help in securing financial aid and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited colleges. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Magee MS employers will only hire graduates of an accredited school for entry-level positions.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Inquire if the xray technician programs you are evaluating have partnerships with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific manner to receive practical training in a clinical setting, they are additionally a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help students and graduates establish professional connections in the Magee MS health care community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely want to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that initial job in Magee MS in a new profession can be challenging without help. Find out if the radiographer programs you are considering have job placement programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with Mississippi healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will need to be within driving distance of their Magee MS residence. Students who have decided to attend classes online naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit far in the rear of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will likely want a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Magee MS schools you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to talk with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program also.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the radiographer  program you finally choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is especially essential if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Magee MS area, confirm that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, find out if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of illness, work or family obligations.

    Magee, Mississippi

The first settlers in the area were Arthur Mangum and Phil Magee, who came into the area around 1820. Pioneers from Virginia and the Carolinas followed. The town of Magee was originally named Mangum, after Arthur Mangum; it kept this name until 1859.[4][4]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.9 square miles (13 km2), all land. Magee is located between Jackson and Hattiesburg on U.S. Highway 49 at the intersection of three Mississippi Highways: 541, 545, and 28.

On March 26, 2009, around 1:30 a.m., an EF3 tornado struck the north part of the city. The tornado destroyed 60 homes and caused 25 injuries, with no fatalities. The tornado significantly damaged the town's water treatment plant, interrupting service to the entire town. Circuit Riders and other technicians from the Mississippi Rural Water Association worked with the city staff, local contractors and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency to restore water service.[19] Using four MEMA generators, the rural water staff was able to restore service to Magee by 2:20 p.m. the next day.
