An Associate Degree, which is the most common among technicians, normally requires 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the course load and program. Once you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must abide by any licensing or certification requirements in Nebraska or the state you will be working as applicable.

X-Ray Tech Licensing and Certification

After you have graduated from an X-Ray tech school, based on the state where you will be practicing you might need to become licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their requirements vary so check with your state. Presently, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but several approve other options for testing as well. Some states also require certification as a component of the licensing procedure, if not it is optional. Having said that, many Blair area employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it could improve your career options in and around Blair NE to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every two years, which may be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Tech Colleges

Blair NE student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of every degree program, x-ray tech schools will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree programs. So although you can still earn your degree online, a significant portion of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an internship off campus. Practical training is often conducted in Blair NE hospitals, outpatient clinics or private practices in sponsorship with the colleges. But the online section of the training may be attended in the comfort of your Blair residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree often find that the online style of learning is far more practical with their active schedules. Plus online programs are frequently less costly than conventional options. Along with reduced tuition, costs for study materials and commuting may be lessened as well. But just make certain that the online program you select is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online degree may be the best choice for you.

Topics to Ask X Ray Tech Schools

After you have chosen the type of degree that you would like to earn, you can begin the process of searching for and assessing x-ray tech schools near Blair NE. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or drive to a local campus. If you opt for the latter, then of course the location of the college will be important. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenses will be an important factor also. But along with cost and location, what more should you factor in when reviewing schools? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details before you make your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you should ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Tech Schools Accredited? The majority of xray technician colleges have acquired some form of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to confirm that the school and program are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting agencies in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through an extensive assessment of their teachers and educational materials. If the college is online it might also earn accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a quality education, accreditation will also assist in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are frequently not available for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Blair NE health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry level jobs.

Are Internship Programs Provided? Inquire if the radiology tech programs you are evaluating have relationships with local hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Not only are internships a great way to get practical training in a clinical environment, they are additionally a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can help students and graduates develop professional relationships in the Blair NE healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance offered? You will probably wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that first job in Blair NE in a new profession can be difficult without help. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have substantial networks and great relationships with Nebraska healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are well regarded and sought after.

Where is the College Located? For a lot of students, the school they decide on will need to be within travelling distance of their Blair NE residence. Students who have chosen to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a program that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges typically charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that likes to sit way in the back of class or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Blair NE schools you are reviewing what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with some of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the xray technician program as well.

Does the Program Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you need to confirm that the xray tech  college you ultimately choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is especially important if you decide to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Blair NE area, make certain that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to carry. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss as a result of work, illness or family emergencies.

Blair is a city in and the county seat of Washington County, Nebraska, United States.[5] The population was 7,990 at the 2010 census. Blair is a part of the Omaha-Council Bluffs Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Blair was platted in 1869 when the Sioux City and Pacific Railroad was extended to that point.[6] It was named for railroad magnate John Insley Blair, who was credited with bringing the railroad to town.[7] Blair was incorporated as a city in 1872.[8] Within its first year, Blair was designated county seat.[6]

In March 1869, a small child playing on a railroad turntable in town was injured on the turntable. The father sued the railway for damages, leading all the way up to the Supreme Court of the United States in the 1873 case Sioux City & Pacific Railroad Co. v. Stout.
