An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among techs, normally requires 18 months to two years to complete depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at up to 4 years to finish and is more extensive in nature. The majority of students select a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that may be appropriate as well. Once you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to abide by any licensing or certification mandates in New Hampshire or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiographer Licensing and Certification

Once you have graduated from an x-ray technician college, depending on the state where you will be practicing you might need to become licensed. The majority of states do require licensing, and their prerequisites vary so check with your state. Currently, all states that do require licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but a number accept other alternatives for testing also. A number of states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, if not it is voluntary. However, numerous Antrim area employers prefer to hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it might enhance your career options in and around Antrim NH to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an approved program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every 2 years, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Technologist Colleges

Antrim NH student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a component of every degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree schools. So while you can still earn your online degree, a substantial portion of the training will be completed either in a school lab or in an externship off-campus. Practical training is typically provided in Antrim NH family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. But the online segment of the training may be attended in the comfort of your Antrim home. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree typically find that the online approach to education is much more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online colleges are often cheaper than on-campus alternatives. In addition to lower tuition, expenses for study materials and commuting can be decreased as well. But just make sure that the online college you enroll in is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then online classes may be the ideal choice for you.

Subjects to Ask Radiographer Programs

After you have chosen the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can start the process of finding and assessing x-ray tech colleges near Antrim NH. You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend online classes or travel to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then obviously the location of the college will be critical. The cost of tuition and secondary expenses will be a material variable as well. But along with cost and location, what more should you factor in when reviewing colleges? Well, you need to ask if the schools are accredited, and if they provide internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these essential details before you make your decision, we have assembled a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are reviewing.

Are the X-Ray Technician Schools Accredited? Most radiology technician colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. However, it’s still crucial to verify that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous examination of their teachers and course materials. If the college is online it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with guaranteeing a superior education, accreditation will also help in securing financial aid and student loans, which are frequently not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Antrim NH employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited school for entry-level jobs.

Are Internships Provided? Find out if the radiology technician programs you are assessing have relationships with regional clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a terrific means to receive practical experience in a clinical environment, they are also a way to satisfy the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a supplemental benefit, they can help students and graduates develop professional connections in the Antrim NH health care community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will undoubtedly wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but finding that initial job in Antrim NH in a new field can be challenging without assistance. Find out if the x-ray tech programs you are interviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent sign that the schools have large networks and great relationships with New Hampshire healthcare employers. It also corroborates that their students are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For many students, the college they pick will need to be within travelling distance of their Antrim NH home. Those who have opted to attend online classes naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of importance. Something to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or even out of your local area, you may have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges generally charge a higher tuition to those students that live outside of their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the type of person that likes to sit far in the rear of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely want a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Antrim NH colleges you are looking at what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program also.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to verify that the xray tech  school you finally choose can provide the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you opt to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Antrim NH area, make sure that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, find out if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, ask what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of work, illness or family emergencies.

    Antrim, New Hampshire

Antrim is a town in Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, United States. The population was 2,637 at the 2010 census.[1] The primary settlement in the town, where 1,397 people lived at the 2010 census,[1] is defined as the Antrim census-designated place (CDP) and is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 202 and New Hampshire Route 31. The town of Antrim also includes the villages of Antrim Center, North Branch, Clinton Village and South Village.

Settled in 1741 and incorporated on 22 March 1777,[2] this town did not receive its incorporated name until 1778. It was named for County Antrim in the north of Ireland, presently a part of Northern Ireland, which was the native home of the land's owner, Philip Riley. Scots-Irish settlers established a Presbyterian church in Antrim in 1788.[3]

With falls providing water power, Great Brook was once lined with over twenty mills along its course from Gregg Lake to the Contoocook River. Commercial development centered on South Antrim. Cutlery was the major industry in this town, beginning with the manufacturing of apple-paring machines in 1864. The manufacture of cutlery continued in Antrim through 1989. The town is now largely a bedroom community for Peterborough and Hillsborough. It was home to the now-defunct Nathaniel Hawthorne College.[4]
