An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among technicians, usually takes 18 months to two years to complete depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as four years to finish and is more extensive in scope. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that are acceptable as well. One thing to bear in mind is that radiographer colleges have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It may typically be fulfilled by taking part in an internship or externship program which a large number of schools offer through local hospitals and clinics in Mebane NC or their area. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any licensing or certification requirements in North Carolina or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

X-ray Technician Licensing and Certification

Once you have graduated from an X-Ray tech school, based on the state where you will be employed you might have to become licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their prerequisites vary so contact your state. Currently, all states that do mandate licensure will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the licensing application, but several provide other options for testing as well. A number of states also require certification as part of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is optional. Having said that, numerous Mebane area employers will only hire radiology techs that are certified so it could increase your career options in and around Mebane NC to become certified. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also calls for re-certification every other year, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Tech Degrees

Mebane NC student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of any degree program, x-ray tech schools will have practical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree schools. So even though you can still earn your degree online, a significant portion of the training will be completed either in a college lab or in an internship off-campus. Clinical training is typically performed in Mebane NC family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. However the online portion of the training may be accessed in the privacy of your Mebane home. Students who keep working while earning their degree often discover that the online approach to learning is far more convenient with their busy schedules. Plus online programs are generally cheaper than conventional options. Along with reduced tuition, costs for study materials and commuting may be decreased as well. But just confirm that the online school you pick is accredited (more on the advantages of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online degree may be the best choice for you.

Questions to Ask Radiologic Tech Programs

When you have decided on the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can begin the process of searching for and evaluating x-ray tech colleges near Mebane NC. You will also need to decide if you want to attend classes online or drive to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be critical. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a material variable also. But along with location and cost, what more should you look at when reviewing colleges? Well, you should find out if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor externship or internship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details before you make your selection, we have put together a list of questions that you must ask the colleges you are reviewing.

Are the Radiology Technician Programs Accredited? The majority of radiology technician schools have received some type of accreditation, whether regional or national. Nevertheless, it’s still imperative to make sure that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a detailed assessment of their instructors and educational materials. If the school is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a quality education, accreditation will also assist in acquiring financial aid and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And many Mebane NC health facilities will only hire a graduate of an accredited college for entry level jobs.

Are Internships Offered? Find out if the xray technician schools you are evaluating have associations with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent way to obtain practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a way to fulfill the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a supplemental benefit, they may help students and graduates form professional connections in the Mebane NC health care community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will probably want to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that first job in Mebane NC in a new profession can be challenging without support. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are considering have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with North Carolina healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the Program Located? For many students, the school they decide on will need to be within travelling distance of their Mebane NC home. Students who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to worry themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. One thing to keep in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit far in the back of the classroom or hide in the crowd, you will likely want a smaller class size. Smaller classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Mebane NC colleges you are considering what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may prefer to sit in on one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with some of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the xray tech program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the radiographer  school you ultimately choose can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly important if you opt to continue working while you attend school. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Mebane NC area, verify that they are offered. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would need to carry. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family obligations.

    Mebane, North Carolina

Mebane /ˈmɛbən/ is a city located mostly in Alamance County, North Carolina, United States, and partly in Orange County, North Carolina. The town was named for Alexander Mebane, an American Revolutionary War general and member of the U.S. Congress.[4] It was incorporated as "Mebanesville" in 1882, and in 1883 the name was changed to "Mebane". It was incorporated as a city in 1987.[5] The population as of the 2010 census was 11,393.[6] Mebane is one of the fastest growing municipalities in North Carolina. Mebane straddles the Research Triangle and Piedmont Triad Regions of North Carolina. The Alamance County portion is part of the Burlington Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point Combined Statistical Area. The Orange County portion is part of the Durham-Chapel Hill Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is a component of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill Combined Statistical Area.

In 1939 as part of the New Deal, Margaret C. Gates won a competition sponsored by the Section of Painting and Sculpture of the Treasury Department to create a post office mural in Mebane. Her painting, Landscape—Tobacco Curing, which showed a man and a young boy walking in tandem on their way to work on a tobacco farm, was completed and installed in 1941. In 1965, when the post office was remodeled, the mural was damaged beyond repair, as officials tried to remove it for restoration. A local artist, Henry E. Rood III, was hired to create an exact replica of the painting to adorn the new facility.[11]
