Concordville PA x-ray tech school internship programThe basic prerequisite for attending an x-ray tech school is to have attained a high school diploma or equivalent. Radiologic technologist students have the opportunity to earn either an Associate or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, normally takes 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at as much as 4 years to complete and is more extensive in nature. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that are appropriate also. Something to keep in mind is that radiographer schools have a clinical training or lab component as a component of their course of study. It may often be fulfilled by taking part in an internship or externship program which many colleges offer through local clinics and hospitals in Concordville PA or their region. Once you have graduated from any of the degree programs, you must abide by any licensing or certification mandates in Pennsylvania or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiologic Technologist Licensing and Certification

After you have graduated from an X-Ray tech program, depending on the state where you will be employed you may have to be licensed. Most states do require licensing, and their requirements vary so get in touch with your state. Currently, all states that do require licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but several provide additional options for testing also. Several states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. Having said that, many Concordville area employers prefer to hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it might improve your career options in and around Concordville PA to become certified. ARRT’s certification program involves graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every two years, which can be satisfied with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an examination.

Online X-Ray Technician Programs

Concordville PA student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is the same for online degree programs. So although you can still earn your online degree, a significant amount of the training will be fulfilled either in a college lab or in an externship off campus. Clinical training is often conducted in Concordville PA family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. However the online portion of the training may be attended in the comfort of your Concordville home. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree typically find that the online approach to education is much more practical with their hectic schedules. Plus online programs are often less costly than on-campus options. In addition to reduced tuition, expenses for study materials and commuting may be lessened as well. But just make certain that the online college you choose is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then an online school may be the right option for you.

Subjects to Ask X Ray Tech Colleges

After you have decided on the type of degree that you want to earn, you can begin the process of looking for and assessing x-ray tech colleges near Concordville PA. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend online classes or travel to a nearby campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be relevant. The cost of tuition and secondary expenditures will be a determining variable as well. But along with location and cost, what else should you look at when comparing colleges? Well, you should find out if the schools are accredited, and if they sponsor internship or externship programs. To help you uncover some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the programs you are considering.

Are the Radiology Technician Schools Accredited? The majority of xray tech schools have earned some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still imperative to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Programs obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous review of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in securing financial assistance and student loans, which are often not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And many Concordville PA employers will only hire a graduate of an accredited program for entry level positions.

Are Internship Programs Offered? Inquire if the xray tech colleges you are reviewing have relationships with area hospitals or clinics for internship programs. Internships are not only an excellent manner to receive practical training in a clinical setting, they are also a way to fulfill the clinical training requirement for most programs. As a secondary benefit, they may help graduates and students establish professional connections in the Concordville PA healthcare community and help with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will most likely want to secure employment quickly after graduating, but finding that first job in Concordville PA in a new profession can be difficult without support. Find out if the radiographer schools you are considering have job assistance programs and what their placement rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Pennsylvania healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are well regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the college they pick will have to be within commuting distance of their Concordville PA residence. Those who have opted to attend classes online obviously will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of concern. One thing to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges commonly charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What Size are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit way in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will undoubtedly want a small class size. Small classes allow for more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Concordville PA colleges you are considering what the typical student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your ultimate determination. This will also give you an opportunity to converse with several of the students and instructors to get their perspectives regarding the radiology technician program also.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must verify that the xray tech  school you ultimately pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you opt to continue working while you attend classes. If you need to schedule night or weekend classes in the Concordville PA area, verify that they are available. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, check if that is an alternative and how many credit hours or courses you would have to enroll in. Also, learn what the protocol is for making up any classes that you might miss due to work, illness or family obligations.

    Concordville, Pennsylvania

Concordville is an unincorporated community in Concord Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is located 20 miles west-southwest of Philadelphia, at the junction of U.S. Routes 1 and 322. This intersection can be traced back to two of the earliest roads in Pennsylvania, Baltimore Pike which became U.S. 1, and Concord Pike, which connected Pennsylvania with Delaware.[3]

The first European settlement in the area occurred about 1700, after Quakers bought land from William Penn. Two Friends Meetinghouses (formerly Orthodox and Hicksite) are located in the village. The Orthodox meetinghouse was built in the first half of the nineteenth century, while the Hicksites retained the original meetinghouse (built 1728, reconstructed and expanded 1788). The two factions have since merged and now meet in the original meetinghouse. Part of the village was added to the National Register in 1973.[4]
