Radiologic technologist pupils have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most prevalent among techs, usually takes 18 months to two years to finish depending on the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take longer at up to 4 years to complete and is more extensive in nature. The majority of students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional related majors that are appropriate also. One thing to bear in mind is that radiographer schools have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It may often be satisfied by participating in an externship program which a large number of colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in Muncy PA or their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you will need to comply with any certification or licensing mandates in Pennsylvania or the state you will be working as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

When you have graduated from an X-Ray tech college, depending on the state where you will be practicing you may need to become licensed. Most states do mandate licensing, and their criteria differ so get in touch with your state. At present, all states that do require licensing will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but many provide other options for testing as well. Some states also call for certification as a component of the licensing procedure, otherwise it is voluntary. However, many Muncy area employers would rather hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it may increase your career options in and around Muncy PA to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an accepted program in addition to a passing score on their rigorous examination. ARRT also requires re-certification every 2 years, which may be met with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an exam.

Online X-Ray Tech Classes

Muncy PA student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is no different for online degree programs. Clinical training is usually performed in Muncy PA family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. However the online segment of the training may be attended in the privacy of your Muncy residence. Students who continue working while earning their degree often find that the online style of education is much more practical with their active schedules. Plus online programs are generally more affordable than conventional alternatives. Along with lower tuition, costs for study materials and commuting may be lessened as well. But just confirm that the online school you select is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are dedicated enough to learn with this less structured style of training, then an online degree may be the right option for you.

Subjects to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

When you have selected the kind of degree that you would like to obtain, you can initiate the process of searching for and evaluating x-ray technician schools near Muncy PA. You will also have to determine if you want to attend online classes or drive to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then naturally the location of the college will be relevant. The cost of tuition and supplementary expenditures will be a determining factor as well. But along with location and cost, what more should you consider when reviewing schools? Well, you need to ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you find out some of these essential details before you make your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are considering.

Are the Radiology Tech Colleges Accredited? The majority of radiology technician colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. Nevertheless, it’s still important to make sure that the school and program are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools receiving accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous assessment of their instructors and course materials. If the school is online it may also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which focuses on distance or online learning. All accrediting agencies should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Besides guaranteeing a premium education, accreditation will also help in getting financial aid and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation can also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Muncy PA employers will only hire graduates of an accredited program for entry-level openings.

Are Internships Offered? Inquire if the radiology tech colleges you are evaluating have partnerships with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships an excellent way to get practical training in a clinical setting, they are also a means to satisfy the practical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help graduates and students form professional relationships in the Muncy PA healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help available? You will undoubtedly wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that initial job in Muncy PA in a new field can be difficult without support. Find out if the x-ray tech schools you are interviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have substantial networks and good relationships with Pennsylvania healthcare employers. It also confirms that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School Located? For a number of students, the school they decide on will have to be within commuting distance of their Muncy PA residence. Individuals who have opted to attend classes online naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to keep in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a college that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you may be required to pay a higher tuition. State colleges often charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

How Big are the Classes ? Unless you are the kind of student that prefers to sit way in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will probably want a small class size. Small classes enable more individual participation and personalized instruction. Ask the Muncy PA schools you are looking at what the typical teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you a chance to speak with a few of the instructors and students to get their perspectives regarding the radiology tech program also.

Can the College Accommodate your Schedule? And last you must verify that the radiographer  school you finally pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you opt to continue working while attending school. If you need to schedule evening or weekend classes in the Muncy PA area, make certain that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many credit hours or courses you would need to enroll in. Also, find out what the protocol is for making up any classes that you may miss because of illness, work or family obligations.

    Muncy, Pennsylvania

Muncy is a borough in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania, United States. The name Muncy comes from the Munsee Indians who once lived in the area.[5] The population was 2,663 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Williamsport, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. Muncy is located on the West Branch Susquehanna River, just south of the confluence of Muncy Creek with the river.

About 1787, four brothers Silas, William, Benjamin, and Isaac McCarty, came here from Bucks County. They were of Quaker extraction. William and Benjamin bought 300 acres (120 ha) known as the "John Brady farm."

John Brady was one of the earliest settlers in the area. He received a land grant which was awarded to the officers who served in the Bouquet Expedition. He chose land west of present-day Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He built a private stockade on this land in the Spring of 1776, close to present day Muncy, Pennsylvania, which he called "Fort Brady." John Brady's Muncy house was large for its day. He dug a 4-foot-deep (1.2 m) trench around it and emplaced upright logs in that trench side by side all the way around. He filled the trench with dirt and packed the dirt against the logs to hold the log wall solidly in place. This log wall ran about twelve feet high from the ground. He then held this wall in place upright by pinning smaller logs across its top, to keep the wall face steady and solid. The John Brady homestead was perilously close to the leading edge of the frontier of that time, the Susquehanna River. The other side of the Susquehanna was fiercely dominated by the Indians. The Indians resisted settler encroachment on their territory by routinely crossing the Susquehanna to raid the settlers. The settlers just as routinely crossed the Susquehanna to pursue the raiding war parties to retaliate and sometimes to rescue captives taken by the Indians during these raids. In this ongoing skirmishing, both sides committed unspeakable atrocities on the other, which drove a long-lasting cycle of revenge for revenge brutalities between the settlers and Indians. It was in the midst of this extreme danger and violence that Major John Brady chose to settle his family, which set the stage for what happened to him and for what so greatly impacted and influenced his family—especially, his sons, Continental Army Captain Samuel Brady of Brady's Leap fame and Hugh Brady, who became a Major General in the United States Army.
