X-Ray Technician Degrees Offered near Draper UT

Draper UT x-ray tech school internship programThe primary prerequisite for attending an x-ray tech program is to have received a high school diploma or GED. Radiologic technologist students have the option to earn either an Associate Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree. An Associate Degree, which is the most typical among technicians, usually requires 18 months to 2 years to complete depending on the course load and program. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as 4 years to complete and is more comprehensive in scope. The majority of students opt for a degree major in Radiography, but there are additional similar majors that are acceptable as well. Something to consider is that radiographer colleges have a clinical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It may often be satisfied by participating in an externship program which a large number of schools offer through local clinics and hospitals in Draper UT or their region. After you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must comply with any certification or licensing mandates in Utah or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

After you have graduated from an Radiologist program, based on the state where you will be practicing you may need to be licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their criteria vary so contact your state. At present, all states that do require licensure will recognize The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification exam for the purpose of licensing, but a number accept additional alternatives for testing also. Several states also require certification as a component of the licensing procedure, if not it is voluntary. Having said that, numerous Draper area employers will only hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it might enhance your career options in and around Draper UT to earn certification. ARRT’s certification program requires graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive exam. ARRT also requires re-certification every 2 years, which may be fulfilled with 24 credits of continuing education, or by passing an examination.

Online Radiology Technician Programs

Draper UT student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have practical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is the same for online degree programs. So although you can still earn your degree online, a considerable amount of the training will be completed either in a school lab or in an externship off campus. Practical training is often conducted in Draper UT family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. But the online section of the training may be accessed in the comfort of your Draper residence. Students who keep working while obtaining their degree typically find that the online style of learning is much more convenient with their active schedules. Plus online programs are often less expensive than on-campus alternatives. Along with reduced tuition, costs for commuting and study materials can be decreased also. But just confirm that the online program you select is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are disciplined enough to learn with this less structured type of training, then online classes may be the best choice for you.

What to Ask Radiology Tech Colleges

When you have selected the type of degree that you want to obtain, you can initiate the process of searching for and evaluating x-ray technician schools near Draper UT. You will also need to decide if you prefer to attend classes online or travel to a local campus. If you choose the latter, then naturally the location of the school will be relevant. The price of tuition and supplementary expenses will be a determining variable as well. But in addition to cost and location, what more should you consider when evaluating colleges? Well, you need to check out if the schools are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these important details prior to making your decision, we have compiled a list of questions that you need to ask the programs you are considering.

Are the X-Ray Tech Colleges Accredited? The majority of xray tech schools have acquired some form of accreditation, whether national or regional. Even so, it’s still crucial to make sure that the program and school are accredited. Among the most highly regarded accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools obtaining accreditation from the JRCERT have gone through a rigorous review of their teachers and educational materials. If the school is online it can also receive accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets online or distance education. All accrediting organizations should be acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. In addition to ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also help in acquiring financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not offered for non-accredited schools. Accreditation may also be a pre-requisite for licensing and certification as required. And numerous Draper UT health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry level openings.

Are Internship Programs Sponsored? Inquire if the radiology tech schools you are interested in have associations with area clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Not only are internships a terrific means to get practical training in a clinical environment, they are additionally a way to satisfy the practical training requirement for most programs. As an ancillary benefit, they can help students and graduates develop professional connections in the Draper UT healthcare community and help with obtaining employment.

Is Job Placement Help provided? You will most likely wish to secure employment quickly after graduation, but getting that initial job in Draper UT in a new field can be challenging without help. Ask if the x-ray tech schools you are reviewing have job placement programs and what their placement rates are. Rapid and high placement rates are a good sign that the schools have large networks and good relationships with Utah healthcare employers. It also confirms that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the Program Located? For a number of students, the school they choose will have to be within commuting distance of their Draper UT home. Students who have chosen to attend online classes naturally will not have to trouble themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of area internships will be of importance. Something to bear in mind is that if you choose to enroll in a school that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might need to pay a higher tuition. State colleges generally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges frequently charge a higher tuition to those students that don’t reside within their districts.

What are the Class Sizes ? Unless you are the kind of person that prefers to sit far in the back of class or hide in the crowd, you will likely want a smaller class size. Small classes permit more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Draper UT colleges you are looking at what the average teacher to student ratio is for their classrooms. If practical you may prefer to monitor one or more classes before making your final determination. This will also give you a chance to talk with a few of the instructors and students to get their opinions regarding the radiology technician program as well.

Does the School Accommodate your Schedule? And last you need to confirm that the xray tech  college you finally select can offer the class schedule you need. This is especially crucial if you decide to continue working while attending classes. If you must schedule night or weekend classes in the Draper UT area, verify that they are available. If you can only attend part-time, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would have to carry. Also, learn what the procedure is for making up any classes that you may miss due to work, illness or family obligations.

The Utah State Prison is located in Draper, near Point of the Mountain, alongside Interstate 15. The execution of Gary Gilmore took place there on January 17, 1977. The Utah Legislature voted to relocate the state prison in Draper in 2014 and approved the Salt Lake City location recommended by the prison relocation commission in August 2015. In the fall of 1849, Ebenezer Brown brought cattle to graze along the mountain stream of South Willow Creek. The next spring, Ebenezer moved his wife Phoebe and family to settle in Sivogah, the Indian name for the area which means "Willows." Ebenezer sold his cattle to immigrants heading to the gold fields of California along what became the Mormon Road. More settlers moved to Draper in the next few years. Later the area was called South Willow Creek. By 1852, 20 families lived along the creek. In 1854, the first post office was established with the name Draperville for William Draper III, the first presiding elder of the town's Mormon congregation. The name of the town in later years was shortened to Draper.
