An Associate Degree, which is the most common among techs, usually requires 18 months to two years to finish based upon the program and course load. A Bachelor’s Degree will take more time at as much as four years to complete and is more expansive in scope. Most students choose a degree major in Radiography, but there are other similar majors that are appropriate as well. Something to keep in mind is that radiographer programs have a practical training or lab component as part of their course of study. It can typically be satisfied by participating in an externship program which many colleges sponsor through local clinics and hospitals in Castle Hayne NC or their area. Once you have graduated from one of the degree programs, you must comply with any licensing or certification requirements in North Carolina or the state you will be practicing in as applicable.

Radiographer Certification and Licensing

When you have graduated from an X-Ray tech school, depending on the state where you will be employed you might need to become licensed. The majority of states do mandate licensing, and their prerequisites differ so check with your state. Presently, all states that do mandate licensing will accept The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination for the purpose of licensing, but several provide additional options for testing as well. Some states also call for certification as a component of the licensing process, otherwise it is voluntary. However, numerous Castle Hayne area employers will only hire radiology techs that have earned certification so it might increase your career options in and around Castle Hayne NC to become certified. ARRT’s certification program calls for graduation from an accepted program as well as a passing score on their comprehensive examination. ARRT also demands re-certification every other year, which may be met with 24 credits of continuing ed, or by passing an exam.

Online Radiology Tech Classes

Castle Hayne NC student attending online x-ray tech schoolAs a part of any degree program, x-ray tech colleges will have clinical or lab training included in their curriculum. This is the same for online degree programs. So although you can still obtain your degree online, a considerable portion of the training will be satisfied either in a school lab or in an externship off-campus. Practical training is often performed in Castle Hayne NC family practices, medical clinics or hospitals in sponsorship with the schools. But the online portion of the training can be attended in the comfort of your Castle Hayne home. Students who keep working while earning their degree usually discover that the online approach to education is far more convenient with their active schedules. Plus online schools are often cheaper than on-campus options. In addition to lower tuition, expenses for study materials and commuting may be lessened as well. But just make sure that the online college you pick is accredited (more on the benefits of accreditation later). So if you are motivated enough to learn with this less formalized style of training, then online classes may be the best option for you.

Questions to Ask X Ray Tech Programs

After you have selected the kind of degree that you want to earn, you can begin the process of searching for and evaluating x-ray tech colleges near Castle Hayne NC. You will also need to determine if you prefer to attend classes online or commute to a nearby campus. If you opt for the latter, then of course the location of the college will be important. The cost of tuition and ancillary expenses will be a material factor also. But along with location and cost, what more should you look at when reviewing colleges? Well, you should ask if the colleges are accredited, and if they provide externship or internship programs. To help you learn some of these crucial details before you make your decision, we have put together a list of questions that you should ask the schools you are assessing.

Are the X-Ray Tech Schools Accredited? The majority of radiology technician colleges have received some type of accreditation, whether national or regional. However, it’s still imperative to make sure that the program and school are accredited. One of the most highly respected accrediting organizations in the field of radiology is the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT). Schools earning accreditation from the JRCERT have undergone a rigorous evaluation of their instructors and educational materials. If the college is online it may also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online learning. All accrediting organizations should be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation. Along with ensuring a superior education, accreditation will also help in obtaining financial assistance and student loans, which are many times not accessible for non-accredited programs. Accreditation might also be a pre-requisite for certification and licensing as required. And a number of Castle Hayne NC health facilities will only hire graduates of an accredited college for entry-level openings.

Are Internships Sponsored? Ask if the radiology technician programs you are reviewing have partnerships with local clinics or hospitals for internship programs. Internships are not only a great manner to obtain practical training in a clinical environment, they are also a means to fulfill the clinical training requirement for the majority of programs. As a secondary benefit, they can help students and graduates develop professional relationships in the Castle Hayne NC healthcare community and assist with job placement.

Is Job Placement Help offered? You will probably want to hit the ground running after graduation, but getting that first job in Castle Hayne NC in a new profession can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the radiographer schools you are assessing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are a good indication that the schools have large networks and great relationships with North Carolina healthcare employers. It also substantiates that their graduates are highly regarded and in demand.

Where is the School Located? For a lot of students, the school they select will have to be within travelling distance of their Castle Hayne NC home. Those who have decided to attend online classes naturally will not have to concern themselves with the location of the campus. However, the availability of local internships will be of concern. Something to bear in mind is that if you decide to enroll in a program that is out of state or perhaps out of your local area, you might have to pay a higher tuition. State colleges normally charge higher tuitions for out of state residents. And community colleges typically charge a higher tuition for those students that live outside of their districts.

How Large are the Classes ? Unless you are the sort of student that likes to sit way in the back of the classroom or get lost in the crowd, you will undoubtedly prefer a small class size. Smaller classes enable more individual participation and one-on-one instruction. Ask the Castle Hayne NC schools you are considering what the average student to teacher ratio is for their classes. If practical you may want to monitor one or more classes before making your final decision. This will also give you a chance to speak with some of the students and instructors to get their opinions regarding the radiology tech program also.

Can the School Accommodate your Schedule? And finally you must confirm that the xray tech  school you finally pick can furnish the class schedule you need. This is particularly crucial if you decide to continue working while attending school. If you must schedule evening or weekend classes in the Castle Hayne NC area, make sure that they are offered. If you can only enroll on a part-time basis, verify if that is an option and how many courses or credit hours you would need to carry. Also, find out what the procedure is for making up any classes that you might miss because of illness, work or family emergencies.

    Castle Hayne, North Carolina

Castle Hayne is a census-designated place (CDP) in New Hanover County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 1,202 at the 2010 census, up from 1,116 in 2000. It is part of the Wilmington Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Planters and small farmers used slave labor to make full use of the region's natural resources. The forest provided the region's major industries through the 18th and most of the 19th century: naval stores and lumber fueled the economy both before and after the American Revolution. During the Revolutionary War, the British maintained a garrison at Fort Johnson near Wilmington. After suffering crippling losses at Guilford Court House, the British withdrew all forces back to Fort Johnson and abandoned plans to occupy North Carolina. This prompted the British to attack Yorktown, Virginia instead, which brought an end to the war.

Leading up to the 2011 election, there was a large movement among the residents to incorporate Castle Hayne[4][5] to become the "Town of Castle Hayne". Nearby Wilmington had previously forced an annexation of Monkey Junction in 2010[6] and proposed a forced annexation of Ogden,[7] both of which had resulted in numerous lawsuits and appeals.
